- Artist Name:
- Colleen Appleton Critcher
- Location:
- USA
- Statement:
- When I look into the night sky speckled with stars, I can feel the energy of the universe. Through a telescope I can see that a particular star is not a star at all, but a spiraling galaxy far away. It is simple to ignore the energy circling all around - the moon, the earth, the universe, a seashell, a tree trunk, a flower.
As an artist, I find myself fixated on the beauty most people overlook. I am inspired to capture the energy of life with my abstract paintings. I employ color as a vehicle of expression and use light to construct illusion. Spirals themselves are powerful symbols. They invoke kinetic movement and reflect deeper philosophy. My paintings emulate what I believe; very simply, we are ever changing beings in a life that is never still.
