  • Artist Name:
  • Charlie Spear
  • Statement:
  • Being an artist is not a glamorous life nor is it an easy life. Creativity takes work and solitude and rarely is validated except in ones own honesty of work. Few understand what it is that the artist is trying to express even though the ideas are universal to all. What is enigmatic is that we do it through the filter called self. What I find my art to be about is exactly dicovery of oneself which can shed light on others search for identity....Know thyself carries the burden of seeing horror as well as beauty and inspiration. Admission of ones own art is what society treasures after the artist is gone and the art remains.
  • Biography:
  • I have always been an artist as far back as I can recall. I create in order to satisfy a yearning to create. My work tends to cycle around several basic ideas...Self portraits, social commentary, abstraction and surrealism. I show my art in several galleries and exhibit regularly. I am an artist at age six. Alexander Calder, Paul Klee and Philip Guston among others have influenced my art. Lately, I have begun printmaking working in block and collagraph techniques. Digital work also interests me as I taught this as an art teacher. I show in several galleries and have recieved generous comments about the diversity and uniqueness of my style and subject matter. -Charlie Spear
